Memorial Service

Call to Assembly

Raising of the Colors

President’s Welcoming Remarks

“God Bless America”

Spoken Introduction:

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free,
let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
as we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

All Join in Singing:

God bless America, land that I love,
stand beside her and guide her,
through the night with the light from above,
from the mountains, to the prairies,
to the ocean white with foam,
God bless America, my home sweet home,
God bless America, my home sweet home.

Remembering
At the rising of the sun and its going down, we remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.

At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them.

When we have joy we wish to share, we remember them.

When we have achievements that are based on theirs, we remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make, we remember them.

As long as we live, they, too, shall live. for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.

“Battle Hymn of the Republic”

All join in singing:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord; he is
trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; he hath
loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword; his truth is marching on.

chorus
glory, glory, hallelujah! glory, glory, hallelujah!
glory, glory, hallelujah! his truth is marching on!

I have seen him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps,
they have builded him an alter in the evening dews and damps,
I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
his day is marching on.

chorus

In the beauty of the lilies christ was born across the sea,
with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me,
as he died to make men holy let us die to make men free,
while god is marching on.
chorus

“What is Dying”
Bishop Brent (1862-1929), Bishop of the Philippines

I am standing on the seashore.
a ship at my side spreads her white sails in the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
she is an object of beauty and i stand and watch her until at last
she fades on the horizon.

Then someone at my side says, “there, she has gone” – gone where?
gone from my sight, that is all.
she is just as large in the mast, hull, and spars as she was when she left my side.
the diminished size and total loss of sight is in me and not in her.
and just at the moment when someone by my side says, “she is gone”
others take up the glad shout- “there she comes.”
